Benidorm is one of the most touristic towns in the province of Alicante. One of its biggest attractions is undoubtedly its beaches: Levante Beach and Poniente Beach, named after where the sun rises and sets and separated from each other by the Punta de Canfali, in the centre of Benidorm, where we find the Mirador de Punta de Canfali, also known as the Mediterranean Balcony and where we can enjoy beautiful views of the sea. Under this viewpoint, we will also find the Mal Pas Cove
Poniente Beach is the most extensive in the municipality of Alicante. It lodges a length of 3 kilometers and a width of 74 meters. It limits to the east with the sport port and to the west with the Tossal.
This urban beach is made up of fine grain sand and is less crowded than Levante Beach. This makes it the ideal one for those looking for tranquillity. Its calm waters make it perfect to enjoy with the children.
The beaches of Benidorm point south. This is the explanation for its special microclimate with mild temperatures and the fact that, unlike other Valencian coastal towns, it receives more hours of sunshine.
It has a multitude of SERVICES, among them:
- Rental of sunshades and deckchairs, access for people with reduced mobility, showers, toilets and lifeguards.
- Regarding entertainment, this beach has: water platforms, children's games, nets to play beach volleyball and goals.
- For reading lovers, you will find a public beach library.
- For those who like water sports, they will have the possibility of enjoying: water skiing, kayaks, jet skis, motor boat rental, sailing boats and parasailing.
- For those who like snorkelling and diving, the fact that the Poniente Beach is next to the Benidorm marina will allow you to go on ferry trips to Benidorm Island, which has a rocky bottom where you will enjoy the local fauna and flora. It also has a diving centre in the same port.
- Parking: limited free parking is available. You can always look in the nearest streets or park in the Blue Zone or some public car park. Another option is to use public transport. Poniente Beach has several bus stops.
The Poniente Beach, like the Levante Beach, does NOT have chiringuitos. This is not a problem, as next to it there is a promenade with a large number of bars, terraces, restaurants and cafes.
As far as accommodation is concerned, this beach has fewer hotels than Levante area, although there are three of Benidorm's best known hotels: the Villa del Mar, the Poseidón Playa and the Bali.
If you are looking for disconnection, to get away from the overcrowding, to enjoy a nice walk or a sunset, this is your beach.
Poniente Beach does have the Blue Flag award due to the quality of its waters, the services available and its environmental management.
