The natural pools of Las Salinas de Agaete are a gift for a refreshing swim without worrying about the waves. The walls of these pools stop the waves and only at high tide does a little sea water reach them. They form a set of 3 pools separated by walls from each other and with stairs or pool ladders to access them. Be careful as the algae that builds up can cause you to slip.
There is a large concrete solarium area where we can sunbathe and also a bar with a terrace next to it, where we can have a drink or a snack and get our strength back in the water. There is also another area with raised wooden boards where you can lie down or sit and rest your back.
Just in front of these there is a small cove of boulders where nobody usually swims but it is used a lot for bodysurfing as it usually has quite a lot of waves. I don't recommend going in here as there is usually quite a lot of swell and walking on the boulders with the waves is quite dangerous.
Nearby, continuing along the promenade we can reach the beach of Las Nieves, undoubtedly the most frequented in the area and with a wide variety of restaurants. If we want to do some water sports such as snorkelling, apnea or scuba diving and some kayaking or paddle surfing, this is the place for us. We can also go from here to La Caleta, a rocky cove with areas where nudism is practised. You can find it by going up the zigzagging steps that can be seen from the swimming pools, continuing close to the coast and going down the stairs in the ravine.
There is a car park on the dirt road that leads to the site where camper vans usually spend the night. There is capacity for quite a few cars, although as it fills up you have to walk further to get there.
