Melenara beach is one of the most visited beaches in Telde and stands out for several reasons. Firstly, it has an extensive area of very fine toasted sand and can receive a large number of people. Secondly, it has a wide range of restaurants, especially seafood restaurants in the surrounding area and thirdly, it usually has calm waters due to the fact that it is protected from the north swell by a large overhang.
This beach has all kinds of services and quality, which is why it has been awarded the Blue Flag designation. It is chosen by many locals and tourists who come to the area. It has a large promenade where the restaurants are located and with which you can stroll to observe the adjoining areas along the coast to even the beach of La Garita, passing through the El Hombre beach, Hoya del Pozo beach after almost 3km of walking.
In the northern part of this beach there is a rocky area where small puddles are created and some bathers are located in the area. The statue of Poseidon, the god of the sea, which emerges from the water onto the beach and is located in front of the pier, stands out. At the end, on the point, is the Taliarte pool and the port where the restaurant of the fishermen's guild is located. This whole area protects the beach from the north swell.
In the central part there is a picnic area with 6 or 7 wooden tables protected from the sun by trees. Next to it, there are several restaurants such as El Rincón de Paqui, El Mago Karlin, Las Caracolas, Bistro Escuela Melenara and La Posada del Mar. In the street on the north side of the beach you will find the restaurant Picoteo Casa Chano, Pizzería Venecia, La Rubia and Los Corales. You can see comments about them on tripadvisor.
This is an ideal area for snorkelling, free diving and scuba diving. I have visited this rocky area up to the tip of Taliarte many times as I lived here for a few months and it is my favourite place. Just past the statue there are large submerged rocks that create a wall and then a rocky tongue with caves and holes that goes all the way down to the shore. As you get closer to the point there is more depth and a clittle cliff under the sea. It is also a good place to go kayaking or SUP boarding if there is not too much wind.
There is plenty of parking in the surrounding area, although as it is quite busy it gets busy early, so it is best to come early in the morning. You can get there by bus or guagua to the stops Rotonda de Melenara and Clavelinas on line 75.
