▷ La Puntilla cove 🌊

The cove of La Puntilla is a small cove of fine sand located right next to the port and the beach of San Cristóbal, in the historic fishing district of the city of Las Palmas. It has a length of 55 metres and a width of 50 metres in a large part of its area. It also has another part to the south of pebbles after a rocky area that separates them.

It is not a tourist beach but it is used by the locals. As I mentioned before, this is a historic neighbourhood that is a curious place to visit. In this area there are several seafood restaurants including La Cofradía de Pescadores, El Atlante, Miramar San Cristóbal, Villa Josefa and La Salema 1 and 2.

The day I passed by here, because of an invasive algae (Rugolopteriz okamurae) of brownish colour and Japanese origin, the first line of the beach was full of it. By all accounts, it reproduces rapidly and was widespread in this area and on the fishing pier. The authorities are studying and looking into how to eradicate it, as it is a major threat to the Canarian ecosystems. Hopefully this algae can be controlled and eradicated.

Right next to this beach, in the southernmost part where the pebble cove is located, there is an open space that is used as a parking area for restaurants and has also been a camping area for motorhomes and camper vans for a long time. It is one of the few places near the sea and within the city where you can spend the night. It can be reached by bus from the San Cristóbal bus stop.
