This beach, despite being close to the city, transports us to an incredible space where we can connect with nature and history, as from here we can see the caves inhabited by the first settlers of the islands. It is located in La Isleta, a peninsula at the northern end of the city of Las Palmas, from where you can see the whole bay and Las Canteras Beach. It is half a kilometre long with different areas of sand and rock and is a specially protected area.
The beach is not very crowded and more locals than tourists come here, especially at weekends. There are sandy areas and the entrance to the sea is made of rocks that create different shapes and some small pools where people refresh themselves. In the southernmost part of the beach there is a canyon between rock platforms which provides better access to the sea and where surfers head out in search of waves. Bathers often bring their pets here.
A large wooden platform runs the length of the beach, giving access to the different points where the people are situated. There are steps to sit on and areas where you can rest your back half-tilted for sunbathing, as well as other plank platforms where people lie in the sun or do yoga. There are no services except for lifeguard and cleaning.
In the northernmost part of the beach there is an area of naturist tradition where nudism is practised. You can continue walking towards the end of the confit and continue walking eastwards or up the mountain. Many people come to walk and run around this area and enjoy the beautiful sunsets.
This beach is mainly for body surfing and also for surfing but to a lesser extent as it is surfing on rocks and you need to have a good level as it can be dangerous. It is also an incredible place for snorkelling or free diving with good sea conditions as the rocks have undulating shapes and there are canyons that create incredible seabeds to observe and explore.
There is a large parking area bordering a flora protection zone and people come here with their camper vans and some motorhomes, but the access road by car has some bumpy areas so very short cars can have problems. There are iron steps leading down to the beach from the adjoining neighbourhood, which are also served by the guaguas or municipal buses.
