Alcavaneras beach is located in the heart of the city of Las Palmas, within the docks of Puerto de La Luz, which means that its waters are always very calm. It has fine golden sand and is 400 metres long and 60 metres wide, making it a very wide beach.
It is not usually a very busy beach as tourists and locals prefer the nearby Canteras beach, which is one of the best urban beaches in Europe and has better views of the open sea. Also, because of the proximity of the port and not being in the open sea, its waters are not the cleanest, but this beach has some characteristics and sporting facilities that few others have and that make it special.
Its calm waters make it a perfect place for beginners in the world of canoeing, kayaking and above all stand up paddle surfing, as these conditions are ideal for learning to paddle while keeping your balance on the board. There are also volleyball, beach football and volleyball facilities with several courts. Summer tournaments are held here and changing rooms and showers are available for everyone, as well as a locker service for which you have to bring your own padlock to lock it. These services are available from 10:30h to 18:15h.
At the northern end of the beach there are several indoor football and basketball courts for free use and the Royal Yacht Club. To the south of the beach is the Varadero Maritime Club, the Federación Insular de Vela and several companies related to the world of sailing and diving, such as Buceo Canarias, so you can also enjoy a wide range of nautical and diving activities. In this southern area there are also several restaurants.
There are several kiosks where you can have soft drinks, ice cream, beer and snacks. Right next to the sports courts there is also a children's area with slides in the shade of palm trees. If you like to practice any of these sports, come to this beach and enjoy its facilities. There is a small street where you can park and it can be reached by public transport.
